Indian market have been witnessing several changes following on towards globalization, liberalization and privatization and a large scale entry of multinational company is a major outcomes of new economic order. In the words of Mahatma Gandhi (1890) “A consumer is the most important visitor on our premises; he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him, he makes favor to us, not we favor on him”. This quote expresses the importance of a consumer in the business context. The Consumer Protection Act 1986 provides certain rights to consumers to protect themselves from unfair trade practices resorted by the seller. These rights are well defined by the Consumer Protection Act and there are agencies like the government, consumer courts and voluntary consumer organizations that work towards safe guarding the consumer rights. Each and every consumer should be aware of the consumer rights and responsibilities. For the existing study an attempt was made to find out the awareness level among the rural women. Three villages have been selected randomly from Jorhat sub-division following stratified random sampling method. A total of 120 respondents have been selected for the present study and interview method has been used to collect the data. The result of the study exposes various liabilities of the consumers and it has presented a clear scenario of the consumer’s awareness regarding their rights and responsibilities so as to know their demand. The findings of the study revealed that the age is negatively correlated with the awareness level for consumer rights and education and income are positively correlated with the awareness regarding rights of consumer. Majority of the respondents (60.83%) showed average awareness towards consumer responsibilities. 2020-06-11T00:00:00+00:00 https://i-scholar.in/index.php/Ajhs/article/view/203010 Work Related Musculoskeletal Discomfort in Meat Sellers - A Study Carried out in Tura, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya 2020-09-09T12:09:28+00:00 Ranima Saikia ranimasaikia@rediffmail.com The study was conducted to know the work related musculoskeletal discomfort perceived by the Poultry, Mutton and Pork sellers. Home Science (Hons.) by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, in the year 2002. It aims at bringing improvement in quality of life of rural families. It had also been realized that formal system of education is restricted to classroom and laboratory situation. In real life situation learning through experience has become an integral part of the education. This informal education enables the students and teachers to actively participate in examining the subject matter and it’s utility to solve problems of the rural women. The present study was planned to assess the extent of adoption of home science practices disseminated under Rural Awareness Work Experience (RAWE) programme of College of Home Science, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana. Four villages i.e. Rauwal, Sidhwan Kalan, Talwandi Khurd and Sarabha of Ludhiana district were selected for the purpose of the study. A total of 120 rural women constituted the sample of the study. The findings of the study inferred that the extent of adoption of majority of respondents for Apparel and Textile Science (77.50%) and Family Resource Management (74.16%) was low. Consequently, it may be concluded that there is a large scope for betterment of adoption rate of home science practices by rural women. 2020-06-06T00:00:00+00:00 https://i-scholar.in/index.php/Ajhs/article/view/203020 Challenges Faced by Female Entrepreneur : An Analytical Study 2020-09-09T12:09:28+00:00 Neha Rai neharai331@gmail.com U.V. Often researchers use metacognition as an overarching umbrella term but cognitive and educational theorists argue as to whether metacognition is a single construct or made up of distinct, differentiable factors. Metacognition has also been acknowledged as an abstract thinking ability known to enhance learning outcomes. The present research has made an attempt to assess the metacognitive skills among the students of the constituent colleges of PAU Ludhiana. The sample included 200 college students, in age range of 17-18 years. Metacognitive Awareness Inventory developed by Schraw and Dennison (1994) was used to measure the metacognitive skillfulness of the selected subjects and subsequently an attempt was made to prepare guidelines for parents and teachers to create a metacognitive environment since early years through daily interventions to strengthen their learning outcomes. 2020-06-07T00:00:00+00:00 https://i-scholar.in/index.php/Ajhs/article/view/203025 A Study on Health Problems among the Elderly 2020-09-09T12:09:28+00:00 Meghna S. Bead making, a small scale enterprise, is commonly practiced in North-Western part of Haryana where bead making from wood is the main source of livelihood for more than 70 per cent of the households in Mangali village. All the family members have been involved in various activities of bead making. However, women’s involvement was higher in making beads and string (mala) making (Gandhi et al., 2017) who spend 8-12 hours daily for bead string making at one rupee per string. Seasonal calendar and activity profiles of 50 purposively selected women from Surtiya Panchayat of Mangali village were recorded for the assessment of the working hours of the women involved in bead string making. The work-rest ratio of the average respondents in minutes was calculated to be 20:3, which was not satisfactory for the long hours sitting work. Trainings with time management, bead products like jewelry making, curtains, bead vases, and other bead craft techniques was given to the women for eight months at intermittent intervals. The similar work is recommended to be introduced on large scale and a proper channel can be devised to sell the products and benefit the enterprise. More time management trainings need to happen at village levels to reduce the unnecessary drudgery of the rural women and employ their precious time in quality and productive works. This will ensure that the diverse designs and market colour trends would have wide range of customers resulting in good returns for the bead making enterprise. 2020-08-05T00:00:00+00:00 https://i-scholar.in/index.php/Ajhs/article/view/203095 Content Analysis of Elder Abuse Cases Reported in Selected Regional News Papers 2020-09-09T12:09:29+00:00 Bilquis bilquisbasha@gmail. com L. This excitement around the topic is because of the potential women possess to contribute immensely to the development of society. This is because if a woman is empowered, then it is linked to the sustainable development in the entire world. Therefore, women empowerment has become important topic in the development of the nation. In order to make the nation developed, it is always necessary to developboth the halves of the population equally, i.e. the nation must ensure that both men and women are provided equal access to resources and opportunities to reach the ultimate goal of development. Empowering women means giving power to woman to take decisions at her own level in economic, political and all other dimensions of life.In order to empower women it is necessary to understand the ill practices followed by the society against women in male dominated Indian society. By and large they are discriminated against, suffer neglect, denied rights and violated in every possible way including getting killed even before they are born. The successive governments have been paying special attention to achieve the objectives of women empowerment. The government of India and Punjab has started so many programmes for the upliftment of the women. Ministry of women and child development has also started many schemes/programmes for the welfare of women. The governments have to be careful about not letting these schemes use women as only posters for the schemes. The women must be actual beneficiaries and for this the women themselves need to come forward and start coming out of the shadows of their family members. The schemes discussed in this paper clearly showed that govt. is providing all the help to women in order to achieve community, organizational, economic, political and psychological empowerment. Along with the governments it is our responsibility to be open-minded and change the mindset of the society by providing equal opportunities to women so that she performs well in all spheres of life. Keeping above points in mind, this paper made an attempt to analyze the need for women empowerment and various schemes launched by the state government for the benefit of women using secondary data sources. 2020-08-07T00:00:00+00:00
