A Study to Assess the Effect of Psychoeducation on Level of Awareness Regarding Ill Effects of Alcohol Abuse among Lorry Drivers at Selected Setting

This study conducted with the objective to assess the pretest and post test psychoeducational level of awareness regarding ill effect of alcohol abuse and to compare the pretest and post test psychoeducational level of awareness regarding ill effect of alcohol abuse among the lorry drivers. The study design used was one group pretest post test design. 60 lorry drivers were selected as a sample based on inclusive and exclusive criteria. Study sample were nominated according to non probability convenient sampling technique. The data was collected by using structured questionnaire to assess the level of awareness regarding ill effects of alcohol abuse, after getting informed consent the pretest was done by administering the structured questionnaire on level of awareness regarding the ill effects of alcoholic abuse, psychoeducation was given on ill effects of alcoholic abuse. On the same day after one week post test was done by administering the same tool. The pretest mean score was 173, S.D 22,9, the post mean score was 228 S.D was 44.3. Comparison of pretest and post test psychoeducational level of awareness score on ill effect of alcoholic abuse analyzed by using paired 't' test showed that there was high statistical significance at p<0.001 level. The study concluded that psychoeducation was effective in improving the level of awareness on ill effect of alcoholic abuse among lorry drivers.
