A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Counseling on Readiness to Change Behavior among the Alcoholic Abuser at a Selected Setting, Chennai

The present study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of counseling on readiness to change the behaviour among the alcoholic abuser. The study was conducted at Arikampedu village, Thiruvallur District, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pretest level of readiness to change behaviour among the alcoholic abuser., to assess the post test level of readiness to change the behaviour among the alcoholic abuser, to compare the pre and post test counseling level of readiness to change behaviour among the alcoholic abuser. The research approach adopted for the study is quantitative research approach. One group pretest and post test design. Convenience sampling technique was adopted for the study, sample size is 30, selected based on the inclusive and exclusive criteria. The data was obtained by using a demographic proforma and Audit scale for screening of alcoholic abuse, Socrates - personal drinking questionnaire was used to assess the effectiveness of counseling. Result showed that the comparison of pre and post test conseling level of readiness to change the behaviour, for recognition F = 15.52, for ambivalence - 68.68, taking step F = 3.35 which showed a high statistical significance at p<0.01 level.
