A Descriptive Study to Identify the Cultural Beliefs Related to Pregnancy Among Antenatal Mothers in Rural Areas, Chakeisiani, BBSR, Odisha

The term maternal health includes the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period it provides the health care in dimension of prenatal, intra natal and postnatal care in order to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality rates. Due to certain cultural beliefs during pregnancy may cause maternal morbidity and mortality rates. A Nonexperimental descriptive research design was undertaken on 30 antenatal women in Chakeishiani, Bhubaneswar selected by purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through check list method with selected variables age, religion, education, gestational age, occupation, parity of mother, type of family regarding cultural beliefs related to pregnancy. The data collected were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Among all antenatal mothers 93.3% mothers were beliefs that mother should not wear new saree during pregnancy time and 6.6% mothers were believed that during pregnancy if she sleeps or sit in front of door then she will give birth a baby with blunt nose. The study findings imply that antenatal mothers are following certain cultural beliefs during pregnancy time.
