Synthesis and Pharmacological Screening of Some New Benzimidazole Derivatives

Seven different 2-[(1H-benzimidazol-2yl methyl) sulfanyl)] –N4-(phenylmethylidene) acetohydrazides were synthesized from 2-[(1H- benzimidazol-2-yl methyl) sulfanyl] acetohydrazide on reaction with different aromatic aldehydes in methanol. Each of these compounds were purified and characterized by their spectral data. All the compounds were assayed for their anti-inflammatory activity by carrageenan induced rat hind paw edema method. Some of these compounds showed moderate to considerable anti-inflammatory activity.
