A Validated UV Spectrophotometric Method for Estimation of Escitalopram Oxalate in Bulk and Pharmaceutical Dosage Forms

A simple, sensitive, precise, accurate and economical spectrophotometric method of analysis for escitalopram oxalate both as a bulk drug and in tablet dosage forms was developed and validated. The method employed methanol as solvent and the drug shows maximum absorbance at 239 nm with molar absorptivity of 0.1742×105 L/mol.cm. The linear regression analysis data for the calibration plot showed good linear relationship with r2 = 0.9999 in the concentration range of 5-25 μg/ml. Results of analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies.
