Abstract

Methylene blue has been used as a photosensitized in photogalvanic cell for solar energy conversion. EDTA was used as an electronic donor (reductant) and sodium lauryl sulphate (surfactant) was used as an anionic micelle for greater photoejection of electrons. The photopotential and photocurrent without surfactant was found to be 692 mV and 71 mV respectively whereas with surfactant their values were found to be 744 mV and 104 μA respectively. The effect of various parameters on the electrical output of the cell has been studied. The current voltage (i-V) characteristics of the cell has also been observed. Performance of the cell was determined in dark at its power point.

Abstract

Photochemical reduction of sodium carbonate was investigated in presence of safranine-O. The progress of the reaction was observed spectrophotometrically at d_max=410 m. The effect of pH variation on the formation of formaldehyde and formic acid was investigated. Where two maxima were observed i.e. pH=6.0 and 10.0. Effect of various other parameter like concentration of carbonate intensity of light etc. The rate of photocatalytic reduction was also studied.
