Abstract

2-amino-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-N-(3-furan-2-ylmethyl carboxamido) thiophenes was synthesized using versatile Gewald reaction .First step is preparation of furfuryl cyanoacetamide which was carried out by condensation of furfuryl amine and ethyl cyano acetate which was then reacted with p-chloro acetophenone, sulphur, diethyl amine to give 2-amino-4-(4- chlorophenyl)-N-(3-furan-2-yl methyl carboxamido) thiophene (SM-4) later the compound was treated with twelve different substituted aryl aldehydes to yield twelve new Schiff bases(SM 4a-4l). The compounds were characterized IR, 1H NMR and mass spectral data and screened for antimicrobial activity.

Abstract

The novel 2-amino-3-carbethoxy-4- phenyl thiophene was synthesized by using a acetophenone and ethyl cyano acetate and the parent compound was reacted with chloroacetic acid and glacial acetic acid, the chloro compound was then substituted with different substituted primary and secondary amines to obtain a series of title compounds [SBJa 1-8]. All the new title compounds were characterized by spectral data and were screened for CNS depressant activity. In conclusion, it can be inferred that the electron donating groups on the phenyl ring at R of the title compounds influenced the CNS depressant activity

Later the compound was treated with twelve different substituted aryl aldehydes to yield twelve new Schiff bases (SBJ-Ia-l). The compounds were characterized by IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectral data and screened for CNS depressant activity.

Abstract

2-amino (4-chloro phenyl)thiazoles were synthesized by brominating p-chloroaceto phenone to give p-chloro phenacyl bromide which was then reacted with thiourea in microwave synthesizer to give 2-amino (4-chloro phenyl) thiazoles(II). Later the compound II were treated with ten different substituted aryl aldehydes to yield ten new Schiff bases (III). The compounds were characterized by IR, ¹H NMR and Mass spectral data. Investigation on the antimicrobial activity of these compounds was determined by cup plate method against bacteria and fungi. Among the compounds tested, five compounds exhibited significant antimicrobial activity.
