Abstract

A simple spectophotometric method for the determination of Cefixime with Methylene blue is presented. The determination is based on the hydrolysis of -lactum ring of Cefixime with sodium hydroxide which subsequently reacts with iodate to liberate iodine in acidic medium. The liberated iodine oxidizes Methylene blue to violet colored species of maximum absorption at 640 nm. The absorption is measured within the pH range of 4.1-4.4. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.5-7.9 μg/mL for Cefixime. The analytical parameter was optimized and the method is successfully applied for the determination of Cefixime.

Abstract

Simple Kinetic Spectrophotometric methods have been developed and validated for the estimation of Anti inflammatory drugs, namely Ibuprofen and Nimesulide in pharmaceutical dosage forms. The method is based on the oxidation of Ibuprofen and Nimesulide with alkaline potassium permanganate. In alkaline medium permanganate (Mn⁺⁷) oxidizes Ibuprofen and Nimesulide undergoes one electron reduction to give a green colored manganate ions (Mn⁺⁶) which has wavelength maximum at 610 nm, and unreacted permanganate at 526 nm. The Fixed time (at 240 sec) and Rate constant method were utilized for constructing the calibration graphs. The calibration graphs are linear in the concentration ranges from 30.8–308 gmL⁻¹ and 20.6 – 206 gmL⁻¹ using the Fixed time methods and Rate constant methods respectively. The results are validated statistically and checked through recovery studies. The method has been successfully applied for the determination of the studied Anti inflammatory drugs in commercial dosage forms.

Abstract

Simple and rapid spectrophotometric method for the determination of Pitavastatin is described. The method is based on the reaction of H₂O₂ with Pitavastatin and its reaction with potassium iodide to liberate iodine. The liberated iodine bleaches the Blue colored Toluidine blue and is measured at 630 nm. The Beer’s law is obeyed in the range of 19.0-132.0 μg ml^-1 for Pitavastatin using TB as reagent. The molar absorptivity, detection limit and quantization limit were also calculated. The optimum reaction conditions and other analytical parameters were evaluated. The statistical evaluation of the method is examined by determining intra-day and inter-day precision. The proposed method is simple, accurate and easy to apply for routine use.
