The present survey in Nasik district is the last but one survey in the series of evaluation surveys conducted by the Population Research Centre (PRC), Gokhale Institute, Pune in the five socio-ecological regions of Maharashtra State. Two districts each from the Konkan region (Kolaba and Ratnagiri districts), Vidarbha region (Nagpur and Yeotmal districts), Maharathwada region (Bhir and Aurangabad districts) and Western Maharashtra southern region (Sangli and Satara districts) have already been covered in the past few years. Nasik district belongs to the northern part of Western Maharashtra region.
