Abstract
Irrigation is crucial to the development of agriculture in India. It is necessary in order to ensure stability in crop production and fuller exploitation of cultivable land in all seasons. It is also necessary in order to derive and sustain benefits from biological improvements in crops, and technological improvements in cropping.
