Abstract

Soybean is known as golden bean in India. Soybean is grown successfully in various agro climatic conditions ranging from temperate region to subtropical and tropical regions. Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth developed various technologies and recommendations for soybean cultivation. This study was conducted to study the adoption of these technologies and their socio-economic impact on farmers and also to understand the constraints faced by the farmers in adopting the MKV recommended technologies in soybean crop. The present study was conducted in the jurisdiction of MKV, Parbhani. The data was collected from the respondents by personally interviewing them with the help of specially designed interview schedule. Twenty five respondents from each of the villages were selected randomly, thus, a sample size of 100 was selected for the study. The results revealed that majority of the respondents had middle age group, educated up to secondary school, semi medium land holding, high experience, well for irrigation, uses surface irrigation and fair category of use of source of irrigation. It was also found that more than half of the respondents had low adoption category about recommended technology of soybean crop and majority of respondents expressed that low impact of technology. It was also found that lack of knowledge of improved technology stands, labour problem and high rate and unavailability of fertilizers at proper time were the major constraints face by them in adoption of MKV recommended technologies.

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to examine the content of SAU's websites in Maharashtra and compare with each other on the basis of ICAR guidelines and to appraise webometrics of the SAUs websites. The result of the study showed that general information such as about institute, how to reach, organizational setup, regional stations, AICRPs project were available on all SAU's websites. All SAU's websites have web objects about academic programme, admission, academic rules and regulation, student welfare. The study indicated that all the websites of SAU's have web objects about ongoing projects, research achievement and varieties developed. Agro advisory and help line available on every websites of SAU's. Information about books, periodicals, journals and online/offline literature database is provided in separate internal links of library webpage of all the SAUs. Web object about tenders and photo gallery and RTI act information were mentioned on the websites of all SAU's. Webometric analysis of SAUs websites showed that website of Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli and Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri occupies 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd positions, respectively whereas Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani holds 4^th place among the SAUs. Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli and Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola shares 1^st rank with 5 points out of 10 points whereas websites of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, ranks 2^nd with 4 points out of 10 points. It is indicated that size of home page of websites of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth, Parbhani, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli and Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola are 15.14 kb, 22.58 kb and 50.94 kb, respectively. The study helps the webmaster and the respective university to improvise the usability of websites.

Abstract

The present study was conducted with specific objectives to study knowledge and adoption of sugarcane production technology. For this study Latur district was selected and from Latur district two talukas viz., Chakur and Udgir were selected. From these two talukas twelve villages were selected randomly and ten respondents from each village were selected, i.e. 120 respondents from 12 villages constituted the sample for the study. Ex-Post Facto research design was used for the research study. The major constraints faced by respondents in adoption of sugarcane production technologies were lack of knowledge about the identification of insect and pest, lack of availability water and lack of knowledge about scientific plant protection measures. The majority of the respondents suggested that information should be provided about identification of insect and pests of sugarcane crop and their proper control measures, permanent water resources should be available i.e. farm pond and to provide the information about sett treatment.

Abstract

Recently the phenomenon of suicides of the farmers in Marathwada and other part of the country is one of the most tragic events in the history of India. In Marathwada particularly in low rainfall and low irrigation tracts, farmer's suicides have been happening in droves and the frightening phenomenon continues to persist and recur year after year, without any signs of abatement, hence, this issue has been an important among thinkers, researcher and social workers. The data from twelve respondents were collected from Parbhani and Beed district with the help of interview schedule. The results of the case studies pointed out that the causes of suicide are complex as are the causes of any social phenomenon. The main causes behind suicides found were indebtedness, low productivity, crop failure, low income, more expenditure than income and inability to fulfill family requirements. Majority family members of the deceased farmers suggested for remunerative prices to their farm produce, complete waiving of old loans, immediate Govt. help in natural calamities, provision of irrigation of facilities, sound infrastructure facilities for agriculture, creation of subsidiary occupation and other income sources and provision of labours at cheaper rate as the important measures to be taken to prevent the recurrence of suicide tragedies.
