Acute hyperglycaemia in peri-operative period is associated with significantly increased complications. Even short term hyperglycaemia causes immunosuppression and is associated with significantly increased infectious complications & patient mortality. Surgeries may trigger the stress response. This response includes haemodynamic, metabolic, hormonal changes which may alter blood glucose level. Our aim is to compare the effect of induction dose of intravenous (i.v) Propofol & i.v Etomidate on patients’ blood sugar levels.
