Analysis of the Constituents of Urinary Calculi of Dog Using Various Scientific Techniques

Analytical techniques have been used to determine constituents of urinary stones of different breeds of dogs obtained from the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anand Agricultural University, India. Analysis by powder XRD, FTIR and TGA suggests the presence of pure phases such as calcium oxalate monohydrate, struvite and calcium carbonate, and also mixed phases containing calcium oxalate hydrate, struvite, whewellite and weddellite in the urinary calculi. The morphology of the constituents has been studied by optical and scanning electron microscope. Activation energy and order of reaction for thermal elimination of H2O, CO and CO2 have been determined.
