The Madhya Pradesh Science, Technology and Innovation Policy, 2022, proposes setting up a state-level Traditional Knowledge Repository, focusing on protecting the ‘tribal medicines and practices of the state’. With the state having a number of existing traditional knowledge (TK) databases as well as several agencies with the requisite expertise, such a repository need not be developed from scratch. A consolidated approach with clearly laid-out guidelines and protocols, clarity regarding the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders, and the participation of TK holders and tribal communities with due consideration to their customary laws is imperative.
