Research on the Application of Computer Information System in Urban Planning and Design

With the rapid development of computer technology, the computer technology-based urban Geographic Information System (GIS) has been widely applied to urban planning, which enhances the management and operability of urban planning, puts a large number of new concepts and ideas into practice, and provides multi-level and multi-target comprehensive services for urban planning and management. This paper firstly introduces application status of the information system in urban planning & design and management in China, then, in accordance with the application of urban GIS in Qingdao, analyzes advantages and characteristics of the system application, and finally discusses the issues that require attention in the process of system application. It is pointed out that GIS can make urban planning more reasonable, design more scientific, management more rigorous and decision more accurate, and, at the same time, improves the efficiency of urban planning management. Its wide application provides a good idea and solution for urban scientific development.
