Abstract
The main objective of this paper is to work out morphometric characteristics of various parameters and geomorphic landform development study includes longitudinal profile, hypsometric analysis and slope analysis for Chikotra river basin, District Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. Morphometric analysis, being widely used to assess the drainage characteristics of the river basins, has been found to be a useful tool to delineate groundwater potential zones. A number of parameters including the stream frequency, drainage density and drainage texture suggest that the intermediate textured drainage, hard rock terrain with moderate permeability, subsoil material and moderate relief in the Chikotra river basin. The shape parameters further suggest that the Chikotra river basin with lower form factor which is indicative of elongated basin and moderate ground slope. Area-altitude analysis of the Chikotra river basin indicates that about 70% of the area of the basin is moderate to gently sloping and 30% area is steeply sloping.
