The wealth of every nation is determined by the healthy society. The ischolar_main of healthy society lies in healthy children. So, the growth and development of the nation is highly dependent on younger generation. But, unfortunately there are several incurable abnormalities that cripple the growth of children. One of its kinds is mental retardation. Even though these intellectually disabled children cannot be referred as a boon, they should not be banned. As far as the medical treatments are concerned, presently it is not possible to completely cure these children. Still, there are many medical training methodologies that can be employed to increase their state of life. Human emotions, love, affection, warmth play a vital role in these trainings. These trainings fall behind their efficiency due to lack of recreational therapists and medically trained trainees in the scarcely available daycare centers, vocational institutions. In addition to this, most of the parents are not willing to expose these children in public. To overcome these drawbacks of present trainings, we have made use of the concepts of Expert systems and Virtual humans a computerized training to make such children learn life. Expert Systems are formed with the knowledge of experts in related medical fields who can diagnose the condition and determine the physical and mental requirements of each individual. So, initially the conditions of the individual in the form of parameters like age, sex, IQ level and physical impairment. Expert system further processes the input parameters and returns a value. Corresponding to the returned value, the selector selects appropriate virtual human who has been already trained to simulate a recreational therapist gives the training. The advantage of using a virtual human is not just he resembles a real human in appearance but also, the capability of exhibiting expressions and emotions. Virtual human can be designed to interact with the users due to his autonomous intelligence. The interacting capability is possible with Artificial intelligence markup language and Virtual Human Director System. Further a proposal for enhancing this concept of virtual humans to be implemented for applications that value human emotions and logical thinking is stated.

Abstract

The wealth of every nation is determined by the healthy society. The ischolar_main of healthy society lies in healthy children. So, the growth and development of the nation is highly dependent on younger generation. But, unfortunately there are several incurable abnormalities that cripple the growth of children. One of its kinds is mental retardation. Even though these intellectually disabled children cannot be referred as a boon, they should not be banned.
