Design and Development of an Impeller of a Blower through Engineering Integration

This paper deals with a need to develop and maintain complex design procedures by integrating design and modeling software. Through this integration data can be easily transferred through various development applications. In this work, importance of integration has been highlighted by integrating MathCAD and Pro-Engineer softwares for design and development of impeller of a blower. MathCAD is a standardized & right tool for engineering calculations while ProEngineer is a parametric, integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE solution. For overall pressure ratio (ξ) value of more than 2, forward (radial) impeller is suitable while backward curved impeller is more suitable for ξ less than 2. After implementation of this system, it is easily possible to optimize the design parameter based on the modified requirements. Also, new manufacturing drawings along with a bill of materials can be generated which helps to reduce the design cycle time.
