Industries are under intense pressure to find ways for producing goods at lower cost, lead time and at the same time with higher quality, reliability, performance and with other requirements, so as to survive/sustain their competitive position in their respective markets. As cost of components, sub-assemblies and raw materials constitute the main cost of the product, utmost focus is being laid to this major cost contributing factor. Due to consideration of many contradictory criteria, supplier selection is considered as a Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. Fuzzy Goal Programming (FGP) is one of the methods used for solving the MCDM problems. In this paper supplier selection ethodology through FGP is presented and the supplier selection criteria are formulated keeping the requirements of industries such as automobiles, ship building, aircraft making, heavy engineering, etc., in consideration.
