This paper presents a novel control strategy for Slow Switching Frequency Changer (SSFC). The proposed Area Equalization Method (AEM) offers reduced Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) for the required output voltage magnitude. The detailed comparison of the fundamental component and harmonic content of the output voltage of the AEM with the results obtained from the existing cycloconverter control strategies are also presented. Results of the simulation have been validated with the experimentation and superiority of the proposed scheme is conformed.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel control strategy for Slow Switching Frequency Changer (SSFC). The proposed Area Equalization Method (AEM) offers reduced Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) for the required output voltage magnitude. The detailed comparison of the fundamental component and harmonic content of the output voltage of the AEM with the results obtained from the existing cycloconverter control strategies are also presented. Results of the simulation have been validated with the experimentation and superiority of the proposed scheme is conformed.
