VLSI Synthesis and Comparison of Two Different Online Secondary Path Methods for Active Noise Control
Subscribe/Renew Journal
This paper presents a VLSI synthesis of Akthar’s method and Silvia’s method of online secondary path modeling for Active Noise Control using SYNOPSYS Design Compiler tool in terms of area and power. Akthar et al proposed a new method for online secondary path modeling in active noise control systems. In the Akthar’s method, the Modified-FxLMS (MFxLMS) algorithm is used in adapting the noise control filter and a new variable step size (VSS) least mean square (LMS) algorithm is proposed for adaptation of the secondary path modeling filter. Silvia et.al introduced two improvements in the feedforward active noise control system with online secondary path modeling developed by Akthar, Abe, and Kawamata. The first improvement is the addition of delay in the secondary path filter for adaptation of the modeling filter and the second improvement is replacement of NLMS filter instead of LMS filter. In this paper, Akthar’s method and Silvia’ method are synthesized using SYNOPSYS tool and thereby comparison made on area and power of Akthar’s and Silvia’s method.
