The UPFC is the most versatile FACTS controller developed so far, with all encompassing capabilities of voltage regulation, series compensation, and phase shifting. It also brings in new challenges in power electronics and power system design. A simulation model of a single phase UPFC is designed and drawn in MATLAB-Simulink. UPFC offers advantages in terms of dynamic operation of power system by incorporating PI and Fuzzy controller. The Hardware model is developed for UPFC using rectifier and inverter circuits with the help of MOSFET. The experimental results are compared with the simulation results.

Abstract

The UPFC is the most versatile FACTS controller developed so far, with all encompassing capabilities of voltage regulation, series compensation, and phase shifting. It also brings in new challenges in power electronics and power system design. A simulation model of a single phase UPFC is designed and drawn in MATLAB-Simulink. UPFC offers advantages in terms of dynamic operation of power system by incorporating PI and Fuzzy controller. The Hardware model is developed for UPFC using rectifier and inverter circuits with the help of MOSFET. The experimental results are compared with the simulation results.
