Virtual Target Intercept Guidance Algorithm
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The Contact Motion Analysis (CMA) estimates the target motion parameters of the target. Intercept guidance algorithm is used when all the estimated target motion parameters viz. Range, bearing, course and speed of the target are available. This method was used initially for non-homing weapons. These days, people are using for homing weapons with proximity fuse to destroy the target. The estimated target motion parameters are used to find out the initial turn angle (ita) and weapon straight run distance to hit the target. Once the weapon is fired, it turns as per the presetita and then moves in straight path to hit the target. The algorithm also finds out the weapon run time to hit the target. Sometimes hit may not be possible due to the limitations in speed, time and endurance of the weapon. This paper presents the guidance algorithm for undersea maritime target ranging and detection.
