e-governance Initiatives–A Case Study on e-Seva

Imagine a citizen who can log on to one internet web site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to easily find the government services. e-governance is a mechanism through which information and communication technology (ICT) can be adopted in governance systems. e-governance will allow citizens to communicate with government and participate in government’s policy making. Many developing countries are searching for different ways to bring about e- governance. The mechanism of e-Seva (electronic seva) adopted in India, by the state of Andhra Pradesh (A.P.), proves to be successful in bringing about e governance. Under this project web enabled rural kiosks have been established through which citizen can access number of services. This paper focuses on services offered by e-Seva project through which A.P. governments gives equal right to all citizens to access the number of services. The pro ject underscores the point that advantages of Information Technology cannot be made limited to the few sections  of the society and everybody has an equal right to access the same.
