Enhancing QoS for Multimedia Services over Software Defined Networks:A Review

Software Defined Networking (SDN) is a way  to deal with  computer networking  that allows network administrators  to manage network services through generalization of higher-level functionality. This is done by decoupling the system that makes the determination about where traffic is sent (the control plane) from the fundamental systems that forward traffic to the chosen destination (the data plane). Software defined networking is an emerging architecture that is dynamic, manageable and cost effective. This paper introduces the problem with the current internet architecture, to enhance the QoS for multimedia streaming. Several distributed control plane architectures have been proposed to improve the QoS of multimedia traffic. However, non of current proposals provide a solution for the overall network wide QoS control. To this effect, we propose a new mechanism where controllers and forwarders starts ‘n’ number of threads in single environment to perform faster than single controllers and forwarders, as well as enhance the QoS of multimedia streaming.
