This paper proposes a method of power flow control using Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM). It has been demonstrated that the STATCOM has the capability of regulating the voltage and minimizing the power losses simultaneously. A suitable model of STATCOM is incorporated in a general program developed in MATLAB. Newton Raphson Algorithm has been used for power flow analysis. The Placement of STATCOM for optimal power flow control is demonstrated on an IEEE-14 Test Bus System. Results with and without STATCOM have been illustrated. PV and QV curves have been drawn for voltage stability analysis. The hardware model of STATCOM was also presented.
