The automotive industry focuses on designing, developing and manufacturing, marketing and selling the motor vehicles. Modern automotive systems are rapidly becoming highly defined and characterized by embedded electronics and software. This paper details the use of electronic control unit in improving the backup life of automotive batteries. Since battery life is a crucial part of any automobile, care has to be taken to maintain its backup life. Due to passive loading the battery losses its power in the form of quiescent current a gradual scale. It may also be due to mechanical shocks, electrochemical failure or electromagnetic interference. The primary victim of quiescent current is the ignition system which drags current for starting the engine. The quiescent current affects all the electrical and electronic accessories that are connected with the battery. In this paper a conceptual circuit is designed to trap the quiescent current from the battery and feed it back to the battery charging unit. Therefore power will be restored back to the battery. A simple current source is designed to act as the leakage current source the current from this source is detected by the current to voltage converter, the output of which is an equivalent voltage. Since this voltage is of very minimum amplitude it is amplified using Voltage amplifier circuit. The amplified voltage is fed to the charging circuit of the automotive battery.
