In this paper we have analyzed different spectrum sharing techniques in  cognitive  radio  network.  Two  types  of  spectrum  sharing  techniques  have been classified; serial sharing and simultaneous sharing of spectrum. For simultaneous sharing of spectrum by PUs and SUs, white space will be available because of discrete nature of transmission of PUs. But in  serial sharing of spectrum, SUs transmit data in the absence of PUs; spectrum white spaces are larger than the  previous  case. High  latency sensing  method can  be  used  to identify spectrum  white space  in case of serial sharing but  fast  sensing method  is required for identification of white space in simultaneous sharing of spectrum.
