Highly Efficient Series Fed Microstrip Patch Antenna Array with Metamaterial
Subscribe/Renew Journal
For many applications microstrip antenna is well suited because of its properties like lightweight, planar structure and ease of fabricating, but have limitation of low band width and gain. In this research, a design technique for enhancing gain and bandwidth of microstrip patch antenna in ultra wide band frequency spectrum is proposed. This paper presents the design of series fed microstrip patch antenna array with metamaterial. A series resonant array structure is chosen which is compact and easy to excite. The designed antenna exhibits not only high-gain but also broadband characteristics. By using antenna array we can improve performance of the antenna like directivity, gain, bandwidth and other parameters which are difficult to achieve with the single element. Performance of antenna array can further be improved if we can reduce the mutual coupling between the elements. In this research we are designing patch antenna array of five elements which is fed by a microstrip line. SRR metamaterial is introduced in the array design to improve the mutual coupling between the patch elements. The advantage of this antenna is that it provides an overall planar structure. This antenna may find application in modern communication systems and radar systems.
