In this paper an analysis of the performance of a five port structure design in the software defined radio has been done. Five port structures replace the mixer stage of the conventional RF front end receivers. This facilitates direct conversion of the Radio Frequency Signal. The main objective of this work is designing a five port Structure which has its application in the SDR for direct conversion. A novel methodology is followed in the designing of the five port structure, which contains lesser number of hybrid couplers and power dividers, when compared with its six port counterpart. This design is carried out using micro strip lines whose dielectric constant is 2.32. This work is carried out using ADS software and the results includes voltage standing wave ratio of 1.791 along with the S-Parameter variation w.r.t frequency.

The return loss(S11) is obtained as 10.9 dB for five port, whereas the value obtained for six port is 11.268dB. The scattering parameters are obtained at 5.8GHz. The results obtained are in excellent agreement with previous investigations.
