Filter Designing by Using Split Ring Resonator Metamaterial for Microwave Applications
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In this paper, filter characteristics of waveguide loaded with Split Ring Resonator (SRR) are presented. It is demonstrated that transmission coefficient S12 reduces to -39 db after insertion of SRR which was zero without insertion of SRR at 1 G Hz. Which shows that after insertion of SRR in the waveguide signal of frequency 1 G Hz is unable to reach to port 2 from port 1 of waveguide i.e Split Ring Resonator of our design is acting as filter at frequency of 1 G Hz. The effect of variation of dimensions of SRR on filter characteristics is also presented. It is observed that by decreasing the outer radius of SRR and by keeping all other dimensions constant the operating frequency of filter shifts toward higher side. By increasing the inner radius of SRR and keeping all other dimensions constant the operating frequency of filter shifts toward lower side. A band reject filter is also presented by combination of SRR filter of different dimensions. In our work we have designed SRR filter for 1 G Hz. When outer radius of filter is decreased filter characteristics is observed at frequency of 1.16 G Hz. When inner radius of filter is increased filter characteristics is observed at frequency of 0.95 G Hz. When combination of these three filters is used band stop characteristics is observed at frequency range from 0.91 G Hz to 1.11 G Hz. All simulations are done with Anasoft HFSS.
