In India, adolescent girls have become a victim of poor body image, which seriously affects their self esteem. The present study focuses on how poor body image is caused due to the role played by parents, family, peers, culture, weight, media and precocious puberty in the daily life of adolescents. Positive relations with parents, peers, culture, weight and media leads to positive body image (the adolescent loves & appreciates her body). Whereas, negative relation with parents, peers, culture, weight and media leads to negative or poor body image (the adolescent feels ashamed of her body). The study also provides some implications for precluding poor body image.
