An Analysis of Sex Ratio among Scheduled Castes in Haryana State: 2001-2011

Sex ratio is the basic element in population studies which has influence on demographic profile like population growth, occupational structure and marriage rates of a nation. It is an indicator of social and demographic profile of a society. The present study is concerned with sex ratio analysis among scheduled castes in Haryana state. In this paper an attempt has been made to study the sex ratio trends among scheduled castes of Haryana during the period of 2001-2011. The main objective of this research paper is to know the level among scheduled castes in Haryana state. The sex ratio among scheduled castes in Haryana state was 869 females after 1000 males and 887 females after 1000 males during the census year 2001 and 2011, respectively. During the study period the sex ratio was very low and more efforts are required to increase sex ratio among scheduled castes. In addition, there exists wide inter district variation in sex ratio among scheduled castes population. Most of the districts comes under low sex ratio zone. With the study of sex ratio, we can know female status, employment status, consumption patterns and social needs of a nation or a state or a society. So the study of sex ratio has great importance for a population geographer to provide the more options to improve the sex ratio.
