Perception of Civil Servants on Gender Equity in Administrative Services

In a patriarchal society females have very limited access to leadership roles. Men, being the privileged section of the society have easy access to the administrative and leadership roles. Gender disparity in the administrative services remains a striking issue today. The civil services in India have equal access to both men and women, and the bureaucracy appears on the surface to be a gender-neutral organization with equal opportunity policies, through the present paper an effort has been made to analyse the perception of the civil servants in the state of Haryana on gender equity. Findings indicate that a majority of respondents responded that there is a gender equity in administrative services. The majority of respondents from allied services responded favorably to gender equity in administrative services. Respondents in the age group of upto 40 years showed a more favorable attitude towards gender equity. With regard to caste, respondents from general castes had the most positive attitude towards gender equity whereas respondents from OBC showed the most unfavorable attitude with regard to marital status single respondents had more favorable attitude towards gender equity than the married respondents.
