This study was intended to observe the feasibility of developed swept tubular pyrolyzer for the production of bio-oil by pyrolysis of biomass such as cotton stalks. To study pyrolysis parameter, a 628 cm3 (ID 4 cm) swept tubular batch pyrolyzer was developed itself in our workshop. The effect of temperature (400 °C to 700 °C), particle size (0.3 mm, 0.35 mm, 0.425 mm, 1 mm) and time of pyrolysis of cotton stalk on the amount of bio-oil and bio char were investigated at atmospheric pressure condition with a heating rate of 5 to 6 °C/min and under the constant mild flow of N2. The designed swept pyrolyzer has given the 42 % bio-oil yield and temperature and time of pyrolysis of cotton stalk showed pronounced effect on the yield of bio-oil, whereas particle size did not shown significant influence on the yield of bio-oil.
