Abstract

The various structural elements of the multi-storey building need to be designed taking the strength and stability factors into consideration. In the present scenario, the building needs to be designed to follow the framed-structure type i.e. the beams, columns and slabs will be connected to each other rigidly and the beams and columns will form a grid-like pattern. In the paper, an approach has been given to efficiently design the fundamental building blocks i.e.foundation and columns. For the design of the structural members, limit state design method has been applied. In limit state design, the ultimate loading conditions are used for designing.

Abstract

Building design and construction of multi-story buildings involves a network of highly complex and meticulous processes. It is imperative to carry out these processes with great care and concern for achieving desired levels of stability conditions. Using the ultimate load values, the designing of essential structural members have been outlined in the paper. The structural elements used as a basis for carrying out the design calculations include beams, slabs and staircase. The paper presents the various steps of calculations required for computing the correct values. The necessary parameters and design criteria have been shown that will facilitate the design as well as evaluation of the structures. A base plan has been used as an illustrative example to conduct the calculations on.

Abstract

In today's modern world, buildings built using the principles of efficiency and sustainability have successfully been converted to a practical reality. Beginning with an explanation of the meaning of smart building, this paper will attempt to provide deeper insights into the concept. A study will be conducted to evaluate the key-players in smart buildings such as sensors, wireless networks and other internet of things. The research paper contains a detailed account on the numerous smart building technologies and materials developed for enhancing the efficiency of the buildings. However, such a technological revolution has its own share of challenges revolving around its impacts on the environment. Green buildings are used to refer to the buildings that incorporate naturally available materials for construction ultimately leading to zero carbon foot-print. This research is carried out to study the various ways to meet these targets. This paper contains a detailed explanation of the composition, properties and applications of such useful materials. The paper will present a description of the design criteria, workflow, operation and maintenance of the smart buildings incorporating those techniques that will provide optimal utilization of the facilities.
