Series of azobenzothiazole dyes were synthesized by coupling reaction of 2-naphthol, 8-hydroxy quinoline and 2,6-diamino pyridine with diazotized 2-Amino-6-nitrobenzothiazole as diazo component. These dyes have been prepared in good yields, and were characterized by UV–Vis, FT-IR and 1H NMR spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized azobenzothiazole dyes were screened for biological activity. The results of these investigations revealed that the newly synthesized compounds are potent antimicrobial agents. All the synthesized compounds exhibit significant antimicrobial activity.
