The Algeria Agreement of March 1975 Implications in the Middle East


 

Iran has long sought to encourage Iraq to agree to Tehran’s meaning of the border between the two countries, particularly along the Shat-Al-Arab water way. Concerned to establish his own supremacy in the area, the shah has moreover sought to restrict Iraqi influence and covert activities in the region, as well as to eliminate foreign leftist influences at work in Baghdad.
