Life And Healing Processes In Esan Medicine

This paper examines life and healing processes among the Esan people of Edo state, Nigeria. The main thrust of the paper borders on the importance of life in Esan and the status of good health. Good health among the Esan people is physical well-being, social harmony and peace with the supernatural world. This is the ultimate of life in Esan. The paper further attempts to reveal that good health in Africa is specifically akin to morality hence healing processes do not only involve application of herbs. and other materials but also involve offerings, rituals and sacrifices to deities since it is believed that human life is closely linked with the supernatural world. To achieve the objectives of this literature the writers adopt the analytical, descriptive and phenomenological methodology. The literature discovers that adequate understanding of life and the healing processes in Esan medicine will not only promote good health but also forms basis for an economy for ontological order and wholesome development in Edo State and world over.
