Nowadays the MMC (Metal matrix composites) have got wide applications in all the engineering fields due to their light weight and high strength characteristics, especially in the field of automobile and mechanical industries. The aluminium MMC have got wide applications due to their superior mechanical properties. In automobile industries the LM 25 aluminium is used in manufacturing of automobile components like connecting rod, engine blocks, engine heads alloy wheels, etc. In automobile alloy wheels if they are reinforced with steel wires then their total weight can be reduced and mechanical properties can be improved. In this sense we have selected the composite material as LM 25 with steel wire. In the MMC, the LM 25 Al alloy is used as a matrix material and steel wire as a reinforcement material and its tensile and compressive characteristics are compared with base LM25Al alloy.

A16061 alloy are widely used in mechanical and automobile industries because of its superior properties such as highly corrosion resistant, light weight and high strength and finds much applications in the fields of mechanical, automotive, marine and construction (building and high way), applications. Among the reinforced materials A1203 is the most commonly used in MMCs of aluminium. The reinforcement A1203 is more stable and inert and has better corrosion and high temperature resistance. FeS can be used as a solid lubricant if it is reinforced in the matrix, it improves wear characteristics of the MMC. The influence of these reinforcements has been the subject of a significant amount of research work. In this research work the Al 6061 is used as matrix material, A1203 and FeS are used as reinforcements. The resulted MMCs are studied for mechanical properties with 5 wt% of A1203 and by varying the weight percentage of FeS as reinforcements.
