In the last two decades depression in young adolescents has been accepted as a prominent health problem of this age group. Adolescent depression has some typical symptoms and is responsive to appropriate treatment. Depression in this age group is likely to disrupt the development of personality and eventual outcome in career, relationships and self esteem. A detailed review is presented.
