Localised Hypertrichosis Due to Congenital Hypothyroidism
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) is a relatively common congenital disorder occurring in about one of 3000 to one of 4000 live births. Hypertrichosis, a rare condition, can be defined as an excessive growth of hair (terminal, vellus or lanugo) in areas of the body that are not predominantly androgen-dependent, and is independent of age, race or sex. The causal association between hypothyroidism and hypertrichosis has not been reported in neonatal period, although congenitally hypothyroid infants often have a low hairline.
