Towards an Open and Flexible E-Journal Gateway for Effective Scientific Knowledge Sharing

This paper discusses the experience in developing an open, flexible, and cost-effective e-joumal gateway for libraries that subscribe to multiple ejoumals or e-joumals databases. The system is developed using tools like WinlSIS and GenlsisWeb, supported by UNESCO and BIREME. Its model is developed at Central Library of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram for its e-joumals management. This concept can be expanded as an open national e-joumals gateway, in which different libraries are subscribing to different e-joumals databases from different vendors either individually or as part of library consortia. This paper also discusses the technology used, its advantages and features.
