Work at DRTC four decades ago was on computer applications to database design, development and retrieval, and synthesis of Colon Class number.

In the latter half of the 1960s, the Documentation Research and Training Centre (DRTC), ISI, Bangalore, introduced computer applications as course offerings with mainframe computer specialists as visiting lecturers. Mr. Venkataraman, an engineer from the ICL, Ltd. Bangalore, was one of the early visiting lecturers. Mr. Venkataraman emphasized that we should not use the computer simply as a printing machine but must get some 'intelligent' work done with it!
