Education aims to impart knowledge and prepare good citizens library and information centres are the repositories of knowledge and form an integral part of education. Libraries have a long history starting with chained and closed-access libraries of earlier times to the present - day hybrid, digital, virtual libraies that use latest technologies for the provision of information through various services. With advent of computer, the nature of libraries has changed dramatically. Today, university libraries are on the threshold of facing new challenges of the new century. There is need for rejuvenating the LIS professionals in India in the light of the happening at the international level.
