CFTRI Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations:An Initiative

In this information age, the role of information centres is rapidly changing. Especially a research organization is expected to provide fast access To mformation to the end users efficiently using latest tecnnologies. This paper discusses an initiative to develop a digital library of theses and dissertations using open source software - Greenstone Digital Library (GSDL). Mentions a few digital Library of electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) projects in USA and India. Provides a brief background to the Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), the objectives of digitization, and some statistics of the digital resources available at the Institute. The selection of collection, software and digitization process are described. Other aspects discussed include workflow, collection building, searching and browsing, advantages and disadvantages of GSDL.
