In the present work, optimization of surface grinding parameters has been performed using analysis of variance. The process parameters under consideration in this study are infeed and environmental conditions i.e. dry and wet conditions with different concentrations of coolant that is used to reduce the amount of heat generated during the process, so as to keep the temperature produced at the wheel-work contact zone under control. A low alloy steel rectangular plate was considered for grinding. The response parameters selected are surface roughness (Ra) and grinding ratio. Nine sets of experiments were conducted on a surface grinding machine. The observed surface roughness (Ra) and the calculated grinding ratio were analyzed by ANOVA optimization tool using MINITAB software. The analysis shows that grinding environment has a more significant influence than infeed, on both roughness of the ground surface as well as on grinding ratio within the domain of experimental conditions.
