Reduction of Copper Present in Wastewater Using Saccharomyces Cerevisiae

Biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of copper ions from wastewater. Use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae has been explored in the laboratory scale experiment as a low cost adsorbent for the reduction of copper in batch techniques. The influence of metal concentration, influence of temperature, pH were also studied. From experimental results it is observed that almost 72 - 88.5% copper can be removed from the solution using Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This process is environment friendly and reduces the huge amount of indiscriminate effluent discharges around the small industry concerns. It may provide an affordable technology for small and medium-scale industry.
