Cellulose nano fibers, introduced during 1980’s have drawn tremendous attention due to their unique characteristic features, such as very large surface to volume ratio, high surface area, good mechanical properties and very low coefficient of thermal expansion etc. These nano materials have recently been successfully used as reinforcing agents and proved to be potential candidates for various bio-medical applications. This article presents an overview of source materials for preparation of nano cellulosic fibers, preparation techniques and properties for nano cellulose and promising application fields covering medical, electrical, electronic, packaging etc.
